"There is no greater love than this, to lay down one's life for ones friends." John 15:13
Each of the saints exemplifies this self-giving love, for the saint is the one who is fully conformed to Jesus Christ, their most intimate friend, with whom they share all things. Each vocation involves this movement of self-giving love in response to the love of Christ, either to specific persons in marriage, or to a multitude in celibate vocations.
Our time, which is tragically marked by darkness, is also, therefore, a time of great grace and great saints. Of these saints, there has been many examples of heroic priestly, self-giving love, not only in places that have long held the Catholic faith, but even from our own land.
